QVC studies philosophy

Published: 4-Oct-2006

QVC is said to be planning a bid for Philosophy in an upcoming auction. The TV channel has refused to comment on the matter, but chief executive Michael George has previously stated that QVC is keen to buy young brands with potential.

A number of private equity firms are also said to be interested, including Summit Partners, GTCR Golder Rauner, Carlyle Group, TA Associates, Apax Partners and JW Childs Associates, although they are said to be worried that if QVC fails to succeed in its alleged attempt, it will stop broadcasting Philosophy's advertising. L'Oréal and Estée Lauder have reportedly dropped out of the running.

Philosophy, which could go for as much as $450m, also sells through speciality and department stores.
