Hallstar is proud to announce its engagement with the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI), the chemical industry’s collaborative equity, diversity, and inclusion initiative aimed at creating pathways for more underrepresented groups to enter and succeed in chemistry careers
FOSSI provides opportunities for manufacturers, supply chain partners and other stakeholders to fund scholarships, provide internship opportunities and facilitate mentoring and leadership training for students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
With an investment of $40,000, Hallstar will sponsor a FOSSI Scholar over the next 4 years, joining a growing list of organisations who have raised more than 7 million dollars to reach their ambitious first year goal of underwriting 150 students as part of the programme.
American Chemistry Council President & CEO Chris Jahn noted, “The ACC’s members are committed to enhancing diversity in our facilities, our board rooms and the communities in which we operate. FOSSI brings together the industry’s collective might to make a significant impact on the future of the chemical industry. We are thrilled to welcome Hallstar into this important initiative and look forward to working with their team to create opportunities and pathways for success for these deserving scholars.”
Ashley Gertz, Hallstar’s Chief Human Resources Officer, welcomes this opportunity to support future chemistry professionals. “Continuous learning and passion for people are two of our company’s core values, and the FOSSI program is a great example of putting those values into practice. We at Hallstar want to attract and develop the best people in the field of chemistry, and that starts with finding ways to provide educational opportunities to a broader, more diverse group of young talent who will be the workforce of the future.”
Organisations, parents and students interested in learning more about FOSSI sponsorship, application criteria and program initiatives should visit www.AIChE.org/FOSSI.
The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative is a joint partnership between the American Chemistry Council, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chemours and the HBCU Week Foundation. Launched in 2020, FOSSI is a core initiative of AIChE’s Doing a World of Good campaign and its All for Good: Engineering for Inclusion priority of increasing industry-wide equity, diversity, and inclusion.
