French consumer advice website L'UFC-Que Choisir has claimed that certain children’s sun care products sold in France do not provide effective sun protection – an allegation that has riled cosmetics industry bodies and experts.

In an online article published on 20 June, UFC tested 17 brands of children’s sun cream. Topping its recommended list was Cien Sun Spray Enfant 50, from the Lidl supermarket chain, which was given two out of three stars and a ‘best buy’, while runners-up included Nivea Sun Kids Protect & Sensitive 50+ and Ambre Solaire Resisto Enfant 50+, which also got two stars.
