German personal care company opens state-of-the-art plant and R&D centre in Mexico

German personal care company Beiersdorf has opened a state-of-the-art plant and R&D centre in Mexico.

Located about 350km northwest of Mexico City in Silao, in the state of Guanajuato, the new production centre will enable Beiersdorf to significantly increase the development and production capacity for the North and Central American markets.

The plant will have an annual output capacity of around 280 million cosmetic products and 45,000 tons of product. It will mainly produce creams, lotions, shower and lip care products from the Nivea, Eucerin, and Labello brands for sales in Mexico, Central and North America.

The complex’s integrated innovation centre will enable 20 researchers to develop products for local consumer needs on site. The plant has also been constructed to comply with LEED certification for environmental sustainability.

“We expect to receive the certificate in a few weeks,” said Plant Manager Dr Sebastian Gottschalk. “Then Beiersdorf, with a platinum seal, will be the first company in Latin America to be able to claim the highest status for an industrial building.”
