Organic beauty sales in the UK grew by 24% in 2017, according to new figures from the Soil Association.
The UK certifier's Organic Beauty and Wellbeing Market Report confirmed that it is the seventh year of consecutive growth for the sector, as certified organic and natural beauty products increased to £75.9m last year.
The sales jump was attributed in part to Netflix – and its documentaries What the Health, Forks Over Knives and Cowspiracy – by providing accessible educational documentaries on global wellbeing issues.
According to the report, sales of British natural beauty brands are going to reach £34bn globally by 2019.
Younger consumers (under 35s) are driving the sector as they reportedly place greater emphasis on their health and wellbeing than older shoppers.
In particular, 40-50% of US women actively seek natural and organic products.
Brands such as Tata Harper, RMS Beauty and Ilia have been successful in the US market and are gaining an international following as demand for natural and organic alternatives increase across the globe.
