Made in Britain is organising and hosting a panel event at the first in-person Cosmetics Business Live conference, which is being held at the Business Design Centre on 17th October 2022. The trade association brings together close to 2,000 British manufacturing businesses, including a number of pioneering UK cosmetics manufacturers located throughout the country.
Cosmetics Business Live is an event that provides a platform for brand owners, manufacturers, suppliers and retailers to discover new trends, share knowledge and grow customer networks. The panel, entitled ‘Beyond Skin Deep: Beauty Manufacturers Driving UK Innovation', will be moderated by Made in Britain CEO John Pearce, and the speakers are drawn from Made in Britain member companies:
- Shalom Lloyd, Founder and Managing Director of Naturally Tribal Skincare
- Chris Taylor, Director at Eve Taylor London Limited
- Madeleine White, CEO and founder of Juni Cosmetics
“Our ‘Beyond Skin Deep’ Made in Britain panellists at Cosmetics Business Live are at the helm of companies that are driving the industry forward in key areas: formulation, packaging and retail. I’m delighted to be bringing this panel debate together amid the beauty industry’s post-pandemic rebound with a group of speakers from member companies that epitomise the market-leading innovation, high standards and commitment to sustainable growth that characterise the Made in Britain community,” said Made in Britain CEO John Pearce.
The three panellists represent companies who are leading sector innovation in various ways. Naturally Tribal Skincare uses ethically sourced ingredients in its natural products for problem skin. Eve Taylor’s aromatherapy products have become industry standard. Juni’s lip products are plastic-free inside and out, packaged in a ground-breaking aluminium tube.
“Cosmetics Business is thrilled to announce Made in Britain as an association partner for October’s Cosmetics Business Live in London. Cosmetics Business’ focus may be global, but we are proudly British and this valuable partnership will allow us to connect Cosmetics Business Live attendees with the best of Britain’s manufacturers, operating at all levels of beauty and personal care creation. We are confident this will be an exciting opportunity for everyone involved!” Julia Wray, Editor, Cosmetics Business
The UK beauty industry is valued at more than £12 billion in 2022. After France and Germany, the UK cosmetics market is the third largest in Western Europe. Due to the pandemic, total beauty spend fell by 5 percent in the UK in 2020. Even the fabled “lipstick effect” – an economic sector indicator which holds that when times are hard, people will spend on small things, like lipstick, that make them feel good – failed to provide an uplift due to mask wearing. Now, however, the rebound is underway, with more people choosing to buy fewer, higher quality products.
Madeleine White, CEO and founder of Juni Cosmetics, said: “Innovation has always been at the forefront of Juni’s business. From the moment we discovered that 900 million lipsticks were being sold each year, worldwide, we knew we had to do something to help tackle the plastic problem. We collaborate with universities, large manufacturers, product designers and cosmetic chemists to create products that are not only beautiful and effective, but kind to our planet. Our uncompromising ethos encourages us to constantly push our boundaries.”
Shalom Lloyd, Founder and Managing Director of Naturally Tribal Skincare, said: “I’m excited about the modern UK beauty industry, particularly as being ‘Made In Britain’ reinforces quality and credibility. We are on a great awareness journey, from waking up to the impact we have on our planet to consumerism. With Simple, Safe, Smart, Superpowered formulations - layered with purpose, impact, innovation and a multi-purpose mindset - we have made beauty, particularly skincare, part of holistic wellness.”
“Wellbeing is now accepted as an important part of a balanced lifestyle. During the worldwide pandemic many people became much more aware of how to improve and maintain their own health, fitness and overall quality of life. This has also been our key guiding principle to our own ‘naturally beautiful’ approach to everything that we do - we have continued to innovate sustainable products with supporting professional treatments in the UK - whilst also exporting this expertise worldwide,” said Chris Taylor, Director at Eve Taylor London Limited.
