Made in Britain will host the third of a series of ‘Sustainability Matters’ webinars on 1 November, with an event bringing together British manufacturers in the health and beauty sector. The online panel event, entitled ‘Sustainability Matters: Health & Beauty’, will feature business leaders from across Made in Britain’s vibrant member community:
- Will King, Founder of King of Shaves
- Emma Heathcote-James, Founder and Owner of Little Soap Company
- Siobhan McGeown, PR Manager at Tropic Skincare
The event will be co-hosted by Victoria Page, Green Growth Programme Manager and Consultant at Made in Britain, and Julia Wray, editor of Cosmetic Business.
“Our ‘Sustainability Matters: Health & Beauty’ Made in Britain panellists are all fantastic examples of how forward-thinking and positively impactful business leadership can be. I’m proud to be bringing this panel together amid a time that sustainability awareness is crucial. These companies epitomise the market-leading innovation, high standards and commitment to sustainable growth that characterise the Made in Britain community,” said Made in Britain CEO John Pearce.
Cosmetics Business editor Julia Wray said: “Sustainability is the biggest issue of our times and must be addressed by all industries. Many of us have heard time and time again that ‘there is no planet B’ and, as a global population, we are using the planet’s resources at a rate of 1.7 times faster than it can regenerate. So, what strategies exist for the beauty sector to minimise its impact on the environment – and can we even go as far as to help support ecosystems and communities? I am thrilled to co-host this webinar, and cannot wait to hear the sustainability insights of our stellar panel line-up of beauty experts."
Emma Heathcote-James, Founder and Owner of Little Soap Company, said: “Our company was ahead of its time in 2008 when we brought the first natural and organic soaps to supermarket shelves. As a BCorp, sustainability has always been at the core of what we do, and as a business we believe our purpose is to help improve the planet. Our latest multi award winning range, Eco Warrior, is entirely plastic free, formulating traditionally bottled liquids, into bar form - soap is no longer soap, with job specific bars for hands, face, body, shave and shampoo. We’ve done the hard work looking at sourcing, carbon emissions, waste and where we give back – enabling our customers to make a simple swap that literally won't cost the earth.”
"Since our inception 18 years ago, Tropic has prioritised sustainability. We live by our Infinite Purpose, creating a healthier, greener, more empowered world which extends to every decision we make, from sourcing ingredients and supply chain all the way through to our partnerships with charities like United World Schools. We've come a long way since our founder, Susie Ma, first started out selling body scrubs in jam jars, at Greenwich Market in London. We are now proudly one of the UK’s fastest-growing skincare brands, with over 300 award-winning products across our ranges,” said Siobhan McGeown, PR Manager at Tropic Skincare.
Will King, Founder of King of Shaves, commented: “‘Sustainability’ has become a ‘meh’ kind of word, used by individuals, companies and brands to appear ‘friendlier’ to consumers. For example, having PCR plastic packaging might make a brand appear more sustainable, but ultimately that plastic will likely be incinerated or land filled. Responsible brands need to embrace circularity, turn off the plastic tap, use micro-plastic free compostable biodegradable packaging solutions, embrace the refill and reuse mentality - and use their market influence to reduce single use plastic at all costs.”
Made in Britain provides its members with free access to its Green Growth programme. At the heart of the programme is the Green Growth Assessment, which has been developed exclusively for the manufacturing sector by the Cambridge Judge Business School in collaboration with Made in Britain and provides manufacturers with practical tools and resources to advance their sustainable business practices.
