J&J Q2 sales up 8.3%

International business drives growth


Consumer goods and pharmaceuticals giant Johnson & Johnson has announced sales of $16.6bn for the second quarter of 2011, an increase of 8.3% on the prior year period. Domestic sales rose 0.1%, but growth was largely driven by international sales, which increased 15.9%, reflecting operational growth of 4.9% and a positive currency impact of 11%.

The company’s second quarter 2011 net earnings, meanwhile, amounted to $2.8bn, or $3.5bn excluding special items.

Meanwhile, J&J’s consumer products division, which includes the Johnson’s, Roc, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Piz Buin and Listerine brands, amassed sales of $3.8bn worldwide, an increase of 4% on the second quarter of 2010.
