Indena today announced that Ecocert has validated two of its products. Ecocert has declared Opextan and Zanthalene fit for use in cosmetic formulations certified according to ecological and organic standards.

Opextan is a patented olive fruit extract that protects the skin from oxidation caused by the sun’s rays and is designed for use in topical and oral beauty formulations, while Zanthalene imparts anti-itching and soothing effects. Zanthalene is obtained from Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim through hypercritic carbon dioxide extraction, a process involving no solvents. A perennial plant native to China, it is widely used to reduce the irritating properties of some foods and as a treatment for gastrointestinal pain.

Commenting on the news, Christian Artaria, Indena marketing director said: ”Thanks to this official validation we will further help our customers getting Ecocert certification, thus matching the increasing needs of market for these products.”
