It’s not good news for Goop, the beauty and wellness brand of Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, which has permanently closed its only London, UK outlet.
The Westbourne Grove store in the city’s Notting Hill area was opened as a temporary pop-up in 2018 but was made an indefinite installation in January 2019.
In-store the brand stocked its beauty range, fashion and wellness products, as well as home care and jewellery skus.
The decision to shutter the store has not been officially disclosed. However, company records filed last week show that the brand lost more than £1m in revenues pre-pandemic in the UK, which will have been exacerbated by forced lockdowns across the nation.
Goop’s UK website is still open.
Paltrow was forced to file her company’s records after being threatened with a shutdown, for the second time, of her UK operations by Companies House, the UK’s official company register.
In the wake of her ‘conscious uncoupling’ from Coldplay’s Chris Martin in 2014, the beauty entrepreneur upheaved her brand’s HQ to the US, where it opened a selection of retail destinations.
