European personal care market up 0.8% in 2012, reveals Cosmetics Europe at its 2013 General Assembly
Cosmetics Europe cites the single regulation, fragrance allergens, plastic litter and endocrine disruption as key focal topics in coming months
At the 2013 Cosmetics Europe General Assembly, held on 13 June in Brussels, the association revealed that the European personal care market grew 0.8% year on year in 2012, with sales reaching €72bn.
Speaking at a press conference in advance of the Assembly, Cosmetics Europe President Fabio Franchina told journalists: “The cosmetics business in Europe remains one of the most important pillars of the European economy. There are 4,000 cosmetics companies based in Europe. And if we look at a typical industrial European business, the cosmetics business is one of few where in any one of the 27 states in Europe you can find the presence of a company that works specifically with the tradition and heritage of that country.
“It’s a solid, robust and successful business,” he added. “In 2012, the business growth was 0.8% and considering the general economic situation this represents one of the most successful businesses that you can find in any FMCG sector.”
