Black Monday is the new Black Friday with online retailers expected to go live with Christmas bargains next Monday rather than the Monday after Black Friday (Cyber Monday), said escentual.com's CEO Rakesh Aggarwal.
It is predicted that online beauty retailers and department stores will slash prices on Monday 21 November at 00.01am in the hope of cashing in on bargain hunters.
Rakesh Aggarwal CEO of online beauty retailer escentual.com explained: “Christmas shoppers are due to get the best value possible this year and retailers are slashing prices in the Black Monday week. This could well be the last year of rock-bottom prices as many consumer goods will be going up in price in the New Year due to currency changes.”
He added: “We are expecting this year to be a bumper year for online sales, last year was up 7% during Black Friday week and this year we expect a repeat of that as savvy bargain hunters find what they like in stores and then research the best prices online.”
Offers at escentual.com will include the Laura Gellar Perfectly Pink 6 Piece Collection Gift Set for £19.95 (a 56% discount), bareMinerals Deluxe Matte Glow Mineral Veil for £17.50 (a 42% discount) and the Hollister Wave For Her Eau de Parfum Spray Gift Set for £18 (a 50% discount).
Black Monday deals include this Laura Gellar Gift Set priced at £19.95 from £45, which is a £25.05 saving.
Black Friday originated in the US as the big discount-shopping day for Christmas after Thanksgiving and is traditionally followed by Cyber Monday. Over the past few years it has grown in popularity in the UK with Amazon spearheading the idea with deals online.
Aggarwal believes sales will hit around £3.5bn across the week (up from £3.3bn in 2015) as shoppers pick up the early bird deals that are being offered. Peak online shopping times are expected to be between 5pm and 10pm on Monday night. Black Friday will take place on Friday 25 November this year.
