Coty faces lawsuit over licence dispute for David Beckham’s fragrance brand

Coty is facing a lawsuit from DB Ventures, the company responsible for former England football player David Beckham’s eponymous fragrance brand, over an alleged licence dispute.

The lawsuit, which has been filed at a New York Court, is seeking damages of up to US$41m over claims that Coty allegedly allowed David Beckham’s fragrances to be sold at petrol stations in the US, according to court documents seen by Reuters.

Global lifestyle brand Nautica has also filed a similar lawsuit against Coty, the documents allegedly read.

Nautica and DB Ventures are both owned by US conglomerate Authentic Brands, which sold the licence for David Beckham’s line of fragrances to perfume specialist Interparfums in January 2026.

In response to the lawsuit, a Coty spokesperson told Cosmetics Business: “Coty does not comment on ongoing legal matters.

“The claims are without merit, and we will defend ourselves vigorously.”
