Clariant awarded RSPO Mass Balance Certification
- Mass Balance Certification by RSPO confirms monitoring of certified palm oil in production processes
- Clariant now able to offer RSPO Mass Balance Certified palm-based ingredients for consumer care products from facilities worldwide
- Certification exemplifies Clariant's commitment to sustainable sourcing of renewable raw materials
Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Mass Balance (MB) certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The certification applies to all sites manufacturing products based on palm-based raw materials operated by Clariant and The Global Amines Company, Clariant's 50-50 joint venture with Wilmar International. Obtaining this certification was a clear goal of Clariant's sustainability strategy.
MB certification by the RSPO confirms that the amount of incoming certified palm-based material is equal to the outgoing amount of material. Ensuring such certification requires careful monitoring of the production processes, which Clariant has now put in place and was confirmed by RSPO auditors who visited all relevant sites - Muttenz, Santa Clara, Coatzacoalcos, Suzano and Gendorf - over the last two years.
"Palm oil is an important component in surfactants, emulsifiers and preservatives, which mainly find their way into consumer care products. Obtaining the MB certification of the RSPO was a clear goal for us. We put the required monitoring in place as palm oil is the most widely used renewable raw material at Clariant and we wanted to be able to track it as part of our own commitments on sustainable sourcing. Additionally, the certification provides our customers with the extremely important assurance that Clariant's products contribute to the production of sustainable palm oil," says Christian Vang, Head of Business Unit Industrial & Consumer Specialties at Clariant.
