Chemspec will distribute GEM 2-ethylhexyl palmitate across North America

The cosmetics division of Chemspec has signed an exclusive distribution deal in North America with Eastman Chemical Company.

The company will distribute Eastman’s GEM 2-ethylhexyl palmitate ester for use in skin care, sunscreen and make-up products.

The ingredient is formed from a biocatalytic process that uses enzymes and controlled manufacturing conditions to eliminate high temperatures, strong acids and unwanted by-products.

The process is said to be more sustainable than conventional practices, consuming less energy and abiding by the US EPA’s 12 principles of green chemistry.

Dave Moreland, President and CEO of ChemSpec, said: “Partnering with Eastman Chemical Company is a great addition to our cosmetics portfolio because of their commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

“Our exclusive distribution will enable Eastman to grow their market share in the North American market.”
