The UK’s largest specialist perfume retailer has announced positive sales results for the five weeks ending 5 January 2010, with sales increasing by 8.5%, rounding off a successful Christmas period for the group.

Business was booming in the 179 stores that are now operating for the company across the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. The Perfume Shop opened five new stores last year and plans to open a new flagship store in Bluewater before the end of this year, as part of its plan to drive further growth.

The retailer’s online arm also saw good growth, with sales up a staggering 162% up on last year’s total, breaking the company’s previous sales record for the biggest ever week by a single store.

The Perfume Shop’s managing director, Jo Walker, puts this increase largely down to its workforce, which the group cites as its strongest asset. “It’s fantastic to see the passion and commitment shown by our people delivering an outstanding sales performance during this key trading period.”

The success was also said to be due to key television advertising placement during the festive season, when The Perfume Shop appeared in commercial breaks for programmes such as the X Factor and Coronation Street.
