Ariana Grande’s r.e.m beauty has hired Michelle Shigemasa as CEO.
Shigemasa will bring more than 20 years industry experience to the role.
She has held leadership positions at skin care brand Murad and colour cosmetics company Smashbox.
Shigemasa is joining at a time of prominent change for the singer’s beauty brand.
Grande recently bought r.e.m beauty’s assets for US$15m from Forma Brands, which entered bankruptcy last month.
The beauty incubator launched the brand with the singer in November 2021.
Who is Michelle Shigemasa?
Shigemasa was at the helm of Estée Lauder Companies-owned Smashbox for 13 years.
She started as Director of Sales before working her way up to Senior VP and General Manger, North America.
Shigemasa was also CEO of skin care brand Murad for four years.
From 2017 to 2021, she helped the company transition from a mainly bricks-and-mortar strategy to developing a large online offering.
Other important leadership positions include CEO of Shani Darden Skin Care and Account Executive at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
Shigemasa is currently a member of consultancy company We Are The Board.
