Allergan to market eyelash growth promoter

Botox manufacturer Allergan Inc has announced plans to market a new cosmetic drug that is claimed to significantly promote eyelash growth. The new product contains bimatoprost, a synthetic prostaglandin compound, which when applied to the eyelash base, results in significant eyelash growth. Allergan says it holds exclusive patents for use of the ingredient and has intentions to file a New Drug Application (NDA) for bimatoprost.

The new product contains bimatoprost, a synthetic prostaglandin compound, which when applied to the eyelash base, results in significant eyelash growth. Allergan says it holds exclusive patents for use of the ingredient and has intentions to file a New Drug Application (NDA) for bimatoprost.

The company aims to begin direct to consumer advertisement for the new drug within two months of US approval, which is likely to be summer 2009 according to Allergan. It also says the FDA has not expressed any concern about any possible side effects.

According to the manufacturer, trials showed patients had dramatically darker, thicker lashes with three to four months’ of use, and noticeable eyelash growth within weeks. A special applicator is being developed by Allergan to apply the drug and is said to be similar to an eyeliner.
