Scarred skin is less rare than one might think.
One in three people in the UK live with a scar, according to British charity The Scar Free Foundation, and one in three with visible scars will struggle with depression or anxiety as a result.
Moreover, there are many different types of scar – from stretch marks to keloid scars – which require different care and attention at different stages in their development.
“What a scar essentially entails is unorganised collagen,” says Dr. Rebecca Rollett, a consultant plastic surgeon and co-founder of The Yorkshire Aesthetics Clinic.
