Bearded men living in Philadelphia are at a new advantage, male grooming brand Wahl has announced.
The US city was crowned the ‘most facial hair friendly city in America’, up 27 spots on last year’s ranking, after Wahl analysed social media chatter surrounding women’s preferences for facial hair.
It was closely followed by Chicago, up eight places, and Atlanta in third, down one spot.
Steven Yde, division vice president for Wahl, said: “For the last few years we’ve noticed women becoming increasingly involved in the facial hair community, so we were pleasantly surprised to see this trend substantiated in the research — and we think bearded men will also be pleased.”
A separate online survey showed that women’s love of whiskers extends to the rest of the nation, with the majority of US females at 58% preferring a man with facial hair over a clean-shaven face.
To celebrate the results, Wahl will park up at The Philadelphia Beard Festival on 29 April with a team of master barbers operating from a mobile barbershop.
It will tour the top ten cities on its list, giving free facial hair trims at every stop and donating US$1 from each trim to non-profit Zero – The End of Prostate Cancer.
