The bacterial complex Burkholderia cepacia was found in the product, affecting nearly 10,000 units across the US.

While the bacteria is said to rarely affect healthy consumers, it can cause serious risk to individuals suffering from cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease or those with a weakened immune system.

The brand has told consumers who purchased the product after 5 March to check the lot code at the bottom of the bottle for 19057B, 19072E and 19072G and immediately discard or return to The Village Company for a full refund.

Retailers which received the contaminated products include Target, H-E-B, Cardinal Health, Certco, All Essentials and Stater Bros, among others.

Kapra Cosmetics was responsible for manufacturing and distributing the product.

According to the brand, it has not received any reports from consumers related to the recall.

Today, the company owns 15 personal care brands including Hallu, Village Naturals Therapy, Mr. Bubble and Adorn.
