Technical Author - Buckinghamshire

A full-time vacancy has arisen for a Technical Author / Illustrator working in the technical publications department at Silverson’s main manufacturing site in Chesham, Buckinghamshire

The primary responsibility is creating and co-ordinating technical documentation for all Silverson products. The Technical Author will be responsible for creating user manuals and compiling data manuals, including material traceability and certification to industry standards and customer’s VDRs.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong history of working with mechanical engineering teams to gain in-depth understandings of products and the documentation they require. They will a have track record of producing high-quality documentation that is tailored to customers with a wide-range of technical abilities. Working as part of a small and friendly team, a helpful can-do attitude is a must along with the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a technical writing role within an engineering discipline and experience preferably in mechanical engineering.
  • A meticulous and highly conscientious nature with a methodical and systematic approach to problem solving.
  • An ability to produce perspective illustrations and schematics to compliment written instructions.
  • A strong understanding of industry-standard documentation tools and software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite especially Indesign DTP and Illustrator.
  • An ability to interpret and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, including a high level of written and spoken English.
  • An ability to collaborate with all departments and technical teams, including manufacturing, to ensure documentation accuracy and clarity.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to manage allocated workloads within task deadlines and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong proof-reading skills, capable of ensuring all deliverables meet the required standards.
  • An ability to organise and format translated versions of documentation when required.
