Takasago strengthens position in India
Establishes 1,394sqm unit in Chennai to oversee building of permanent manufacturing facility
Takasago International Corp subsidiary Takasago International (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. has set up a manufacturing and research facility at a newly inaugurated site in the Chennai suburb of Poonamallee, Tamil Nadu, India. The 1,394sqm facility houses laboratories to create and blend flavours and fragrances and store raw materials. It also allows Japan based Takasago to ship goods to local customers with shorter lead times and to manufacture and deliver liquid flavour and fragrance compounds with a total capacity of 1,500 metric tonnes.
According to Takasago, the Poonamallee unit will act as a base overseeing the development and completion of the company’s upcoming permanent manufacturing facility, which will be located off Chennai’s Old Mahabalipuram Road. Construction at the Old Mahabalipuram Road site is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2013 and it is hoped the facility will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2015.
Demand for flavours and fragrances is on the rise in India (IAL Consultants forecasts the fragrances market to reach $452m in 2015, up from $336m in 2010) and Takasago says the move to launch manufacturing operations in India reflects its commitment to reduce costs and speed up the delivery of its flavours and fragrances to meet this demand.
