Surfachem expands and restructures technical development laboratory

Published: 21-Mar-2017

In early 2014 Surfachem, a 2M Holdings Ltd company, established a development laboratory within the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre at the University of Huddersfield. Its goal to support and develop the technical expertise and market insight available to their customers.

Since 2014 Surfachem have helped customers solve problems, introduced numerous focus concepts and conducted multiple training seminars. All made possible by the technical development laboratory and the facilities within the 3M Buckley Innovation centre.

These concepts include:

  • High Oil Innovations
  • Ink Defender tattoo protection, a finalist for the 2016 Laura Marshall award for innovation
  • Instant effects
  • Skin care to hair care
  • Carbon black effects

…and many more.

Surfachem are delighted to announce the opening of a second laboratory within the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, as they strive to continuously improve their capabilities.

The two laboratories will independently support Surfachem’s core markets; Personal care, Pharmaceuticals and the Household, Industrial & Institutional (HII) industries.

This split strategy considers the clear and separate needs of these markets and allows Surfachem to commit to a vibrant and focussed development schedule.

To reinforce Surfachem and 2M’s ongoing commitment to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) students, the laboratories will continue to offer work placements to chemistry and science undergraduate students. A scheme that has been successfully running since 2015.
