Beauty retailer Superdrug is again lending its support to the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Shunburn campaign, which also boasts singer Leona Lewis as its new ambassador.
The Shunburn campaign aims to educate young Brits on how to stay safe in the sun after recent research showed that 23% dangerously believed that wearing tanning oil will protect their skin in the sun.
Images of Lewis taken by Mary McCartney will be used to spread the charity’s sun safety message this summer on leaflets, online and in all 913 Superdrug stores nationwide.
Over the past 2 years Superdrug’s support of this campaign has raised over £300,000 to promote awareness of skin cancer and research. This year the joint initiative includes Teenage Cancer Trust education teams visiting schools across the country, funding of a free ‘Burn Alert’ text message system warning people when sun is forecast and a fundraising item designed by Leona Lewis being sold in Superdrug stores.
Superdrug’s Trading Director, Jeff Wemyss, said of the collaboration: “This year through our partnership with the Teenage Cancer Trust, we hope to raise more funds than ever and get across the sun safety message to all young people. We are making it easier than ever for our customers to protect themselves in the sun by giving them the right advice for their skin at the same time as raising funds for this very worthwhile charity.”
