Luxe Pack Monaco proved yet again to be a hotspot for beauty packaging trend scouting, providing brands with a wealth of inspiration for future product innovations.

Cosmetics Business headed to the Monte Carlo show in the French Riviera, which ran from 29 September to 1 October, showcasing the latest packaging launches and technologies in premium beauty.

These are the six standout packaging developments from the show and the key trends they reflect for the industry.

1. A cool touch

Beauty products that deliver a sensory experience when in use are growing in demand, and several suppliers introduced new innovations that reflected this trend.

“There is a big trend for cooling touch and sensorial applicators,” said Fliss Hynard, Sales and Project Manager at HCP, at the show.

The company was displaying Dual Touch – a customisable beauty applicator with a dual-sided tip with a stainless steel side, which offers a cooling sensation, and another side in silicone bristles for a stimulating and gentle exfoliating effect.

Suitable for complexion, skin care or lip care products, Dual Touch also comes in other material options including ceramic – to also offer a cooling effect – or TPE.

Cosmogen also demonstrated an immediate cooling effect with its Smooth & Fresh dual-material applicator, with a metal surface on one side to help reduce puffiness and an ultra-soft flocking on the other for a smooth and even finish.

Also new from Cosmogen is Tense Tube with a stainless-steel tip which cools and refreshes skin, and can be used for firming and decongesting benefits.

“Brands prefer steel applicators to zamak as they are a more durable metal,” Camille Thomas, Marketing Project Manager at Cosmogen, told Cosmetics Business.

Cooling effects were also picked up by Nuon Medical, featuring in one of its latest innovations on show.

Noting the use of heat or cold and microneedling are among the strongest beauty technology trends for the months ahead, the company showcased its new Skin Soothing Cooling Device (pictured top).

It is an ergonomic accessory that delivers cold associated with blue light for anti-bacterial action in one press of a button, while a second push combines heat with red LEDs to offer anti-ageing benefits.

2. Rituals in motion

As beauty routines take on a more ritualistic flavour, packaging manufacturers suggested further ways to add sensory dimensions to cosmetics application.
