Then the rollout of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) began earlier this year, attention naturally focused on the likes of bottles, cartons and wrappers.

The new regulation is being introduced in phases, and from 2030 operators using specified transport packaging within the EU will generally need at least 40% of it to be reusable within a reuse system.

For beauty manufacturers, the implications depend on how goods enter and move through the EU.

The EU importer may hold certain responsibilities, but exporters will be asked for packaging specifications, declarations, reuse data and evidence of recovery.
