American rapper and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams will launch a new mineral sun care range on 14 July as part of his Humanrace wellbeing brand.
The Ozone Face Protection Daily Moisturizer and Ozone Body Protection Cream are SPF30 and have been formulated with non-nano zinc oxide and snow mushroom extract.
Pharrell is hoping to use the launch to tackle misconceptions of sunscreen use for people of colour.
“Our Earth’s Ozone layer naturally protects us from harmful UV radiation from the sun, but we still need to protect ourselves daily from the UV rays that get through,” said Williams.
“We believe there is room under the sun for everyone, and we all need to be wearing sunscreen daily.”
Dr Elena Jones, Pharrell’s Dermatologist, worked with the hip hop star to develop the range.
The new sun protection comes in refillable packaging, which is made from post-consumer recycled landfill plastic.
“The biggest misconception is that deeper skin tones don’t need sunscreen, but no matter what colour your skin is, all skin tones need a daily sunscreen, rain or shine,” added Jones.
“I have patients every day asking what they should be doing to care for their skin, the easiest thing to do is start wearing sunscreen daily.”
The range will be available at humanrace.com and other retail outlets.
