The Finnish skincare line NOBE Forest Elixir Microbiome Skincare includes the Re-Connecting Nature forest microbe extract produced by Uute Scientific, the world’s first ingredient from Finnish nature that restores the skin's natural microbial balance. According to newly published research1, the exposure to nature provided by the microbial extract has been found to support current treatments for atopic dermatitis, thanks to its skin barrier-strengthening properties. This marks the first time adding natural microbial diversity through a cream has positively affected a specific condition.

The effectiveness of the Finnish NOBE skincare line’s Forest Elixir Microbiome Skincare products is based on the Re-Connecting Nature forest microbial extract, developed by the Finnish biotechnology start-up Uute Scientific. It is the world’s first ingredient derived from Finnish nature that restores the skin's natural microbial balance. Made from renewable sources, the ingredient has been scientifically proven to restore the natural balance of the skin’s microbiome, strengthen the skin’s barrier, and enhance skin regeneration. Research also shows that it effectively reduces redness and irritation.

In a newly published study by Uute Scientific, the effects of the nature-inspired microbial extract on atopic skin were investigated. Uute Scientific’s scientists conducted groundbreaking research and formed part of the Universities of Tampere and Helsinki. The study involved 142 volunteers with atopic dermatitis, half of whom were given a placebo cream and the other half a cream containing the Re-Connecting Nature® microbial extract. The volunteers used the test creams as part of their daily lives for approximately seven months. The results indicated that fewer participants in the group exposed to the nature-based cream used medication for atopic conditions compared to those in the placebo group. Additionally, the cream containing the microbial extract strengthened the skin’s protective barrier and prevented irritation in atopic skin, particularly during the seasonal shift from autumn to winter.

"We are born in nature. We are meant to put our hands in the dirt, pick berries, and swim in lakes. But we have become too urbanized and overly clean. At the end of the day, it’s really simple – we need the microbiota from nature to protect our skin and train our skin barrier to become stronger. Instead of walking in the wet and cold forest, now we can bring nature’s beneficial microbes to our feet while sitting on the sofa in front of the fireplace,” says Johanna Rönkkö, Founder of NOBE.
