Perfect Corp has announced the launch of its debut AI Meets Beauty challenge in a bid to encourage innovative applications for the beauty industry.
In partnership with Academia Sinica, Cyberlink Corp and Association for Computing Machinery the challenge invites participants tackle the task of providing a large-scale image dataset of over half a million images of beauty and personal care products.
Perfect Corp’s CEO Alice Chang said: “The global AI challenge calls for the world’s brightest minds to develop beauty tech solutions using AI to create a truly personalised, immediate and readily accessible experience for beauty consumers.
“We believe in the transformative effects of AI learning and are investing heavily in developing next generation AR and AI solutions for beauty consumers, brands and retailers.”
The winner of the challenge will walk away with US$2,000, second will pick up $1,000 and third will receive $500 in cash prizes.

Perfect Corp’s YouCam service is considered to be one of the companies that is at the forefront of AR and AI in the beauty industry and has partnered with a number of brands to bring virtual try-on services to consumers, inclusive Eylure and Amway.
It received a US$25m in funding from China Creation Ventures, Yuanta Asia Investment, Extol Capital and Cyberlink Corp to develop its technology experiences and further compete against rivals Meitu and L’Oréal-owned Modiface.
