British make-up artist Dame Pat McGrath has created a collection for Kensington Palace’s upcoming exhibition ‘Crown to Couture’.
The event pays tribute to 18th century Royal Court dress and historic fashion, and opens to the public on 5 April 2023.
McGrath’s offering reimagines a portrait of 18th century actor and stylist Frances Abington, brought to life by contemporary models.
“I adore the glamour and magic that can be made creating looks for the red carpet, and I hope this exhibition inspires others to do the same,” said McGrath.
“My 18th century-inspired make-up look isn’t dissimilar to how I approach looks today – beauty is eternal after all.”
Make-up products from McGrath’s eponymous brand were used to create the look in the portraits.
The make-up brand features as the only contemporary beauty business within the exhibition.
“[Models] Vinetria and Meghan exemplify the modern-day beauty that Pat McGrath Labs is all about – delicate but decidedly decadent,” added McGrath.
“The women that I choose to represent my brand have all different skin tones and come from different walks of life, but all represent a look of today.”
Designed by production designer Joseph Bennett, ‘Crown to Couture’ draws a parallel between the 18th century Royal Georgian court and the modern-day red carpet.
It will feature over 200 historic fashion and beauty items on display.
