London-based hair care brand Only Curls has responded to consumer demand for eco-friendly beauty products by swapping its plastic packaging for a sustainable alternative.

The brand’s core range will now be housed in bio-plastic packaging made from sugarcane, which is 100% recyclable.

According to Only Curls, the materials used to make the packaging are produced from renewable sources including vegetable fats and oils, corn starch and recycled food waste.

Only Curls’ founder Lizzie Carter said it was hugely important for her to make the switch to eco-friendly.

She said: “I’ve been looking for more sustainable solutions for my packaging and I want the legacy of Only Curls to be about embracing your natural hair without having a damaging and lasting effect on the environment.”

Carter established the brand after struggling to find a range that catered to her curly hair needs.

“When I lived and worked in the US I was spoilt for choice of curly hair brands using high-quality ingredients,” said Carter.

“Upon my return to the UK I found that there was a significant lack of products that catered to my curly hair needs.”

The brand made its UK debut in February this year and stocks a cleanser, conditioner, curl gel and hydrating curl creme.
