US direct seller Nu Skin is under investigation by the Chinese government over allegations that it conducts illegal business practices in the country. The investigation by China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) follows media reports by The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, that Nu Skin “had been exaggerating its influence and creditworthiness in company brochures” while also carrying out direct marketing practices that involved "brainwashing" and “illegal multi-level marketing”.
