While video games and smartwatches have largely dominated the crowdfunding conversation, luxury beauty brands are also seeing an opportunity on Kickstarter.

The most recent success story is Réduit, which last week closed its round of funding on Kickstarter, smashing its €66,000 target in less than 24 hours.

Réduit sought funding for its upcoming smart skin care device Boost, an app-connected gadget that promises to make the users' current skin care routine more effective by using LED technology to optimise active ingredients in their chosen products.

Boost 'pushes' ingredients into the skin at the required depth. Antioxidants need to be at the deepest layers of the epidermis to function, says Réduit. Brightening and hydrating agents, it adds, belong in the middle layers and UV protection agents should be at the surface.
