Swedish skin care brand Foreo has said it will honour sales made during its Black Friday website glitch, which allowed shoppers to buy its US$279 UFO smart masking device for just $9.90.
The fault is thought to have started around 12:30pm PST on 29 November, affecting its global website foreo.com, when a surge of traffic caused the site to crash.
Upon repairing the fault, Foreo’s tech team failed to notice the pricing mishap.
At its peak, sales of the UFO product reached 20 per second.
In total, 38,575 UFO products were sold, costing the company more than $10m in revenue.
By midnight the glitch was resolved.
Despite the mistake, Foreo’s North America General Manager, Beki Hoxha, is taking a positive outlook on the situation, which he views as a signal of the brand’s popularity.
He said: “It was an error on our part, however, seeing the number of orders placed per minute is a testament that our customers have their eyes on the brand and our innovations.
“This opened the door for new customers to understand who Foreo is and we are happy to honour everyone’s purchases.”
