SOPHIM offers Biophytosebum, vegetable active emollient, as a natural alternative to silicones

SOPHIM established the sensory profile of its ingredient thanks to monadic testing, comparing Biophytosebum to 2 types of silicones (dimethicone et cyclopentasiloxane).

The study demonstrates Biophytosebum is a good sensory alternative, from natural origin, to silicones.

The ingredient was evaluated via monadic testing, on 8 criterias, by a panel of 12 trained judges. Biophytosebum’s thickness, spreadability, or smoothness were appreciated on a scale from 1 to 10, in a blind comparison to two grades of silicones.

This ingredient also offers a sensory ideally located between a film-forming silicone and a volatile silicone. Biophytosebum (INCI : Olive Oil Decyl Esters (and) Squalene) is judged more shiny, more easily spreadable, as smooth as a volatile silicone, less greasy than a film-forming one. This ingredient also provides a naked skin touch. It is an ingredient of choice for sensory cosmetic formulations, and more natural. Available in organic version.

Dimethicone is not biodegradable and presents an environmental impact. Cyclopentasiloxane is monitored for its potential action as an endocrine disruptor. Many formulators try to replace those ingredients in a formula. Biophytosebum allows to offer a biobased alternative, COSMOS approved, organic, and as sensory as silicones.
