Leading Harley Street cosmetic surgeon, Dr Mario Luca Russo is to launch an innovative line of skin care products, which are claimed to revolutionise the way consumers use sun protection.
One of the main challenges surrounding sun protection is consumer compliance on the amount of sun cream used to obtain the desired SPF level. The accepted test method to determine a level of SPF is to use 2mg of product per sq cm, but according to Russo, most consumers are applying half of that and therefore exposing themselves to sun damage.
“Without the correct dosage of a specific formulation, an SPF30 will effectively translate to a SPF of 2-5,” explains Dr Russo. “We considered the human aspect of how people apply sunscreen and the result is the new range.”
The 10 sku line contains a revolutionary sunscreen that is efficacious at lower application densities, (0.5 -1.0mg/sqcm), mimicking the amount usually applied by consumers and helping to prevent photodamage.
“It is the first SPF that works at 1 mg of product per sqcm – it’s very unique to the market,” said Dr Russo.
