MyMicrobiome certifies world’s first microbiome-friendly pet care ingredient, Beauté by Roquette DE 006

MyMicrobiome, the leading global certification body for microbiome-friendly products, today announces a new milestone in pet care: Beauté by Roquette DE 006 from Roquette has become the world’s first ingredient to receive MyMicrobiome’s Microbiome Friendly certification specifically for canine skin.

The certification marks an important step in bringing microbiome-conscious product development  beyond human personal care and into the rapidly growing pet care market. MyMicrobiome’s  dedicated Canine Skin Standard 58.10 evaluates the impact of products on the key microorganisms  naturally present on healthy canine skin, helping ensure that pet care formulations are compatible  with the skin microbiome.

From human skin to canine skin

Beauté by Roquette® DE 006, INCI Dextrin, is a plant-based, hyperbranched dextrin derived from corn  starch. The ingredient was already certified by MyMicrobiome for several human applications,  including face and body, scalp, vaginal and infant skin microbiomes.

With its new canine certification, Beauté by Roquette DE 006 demonstrates its potential for use in  the development of microbiome-friendly pet care formulations, extending the ingredient’s  microbiome credentials to a new area of application.

Pets are an important part of our families, and their skin deserves the same scientific attention we  increasingly give to human skin. With the certification of  Beauté by Roquette DE 006, we are taking an important next step in making microbiome-friendly  product development a standard in pet care. We are particularly proud that an established ingredient  with a strong track record in human care is now also the first ingredient to successfully meet our  canine skin requirements.

Says Hedy Scheck, COO of MyMicrobiome.

A new standard for pet care

The skin microbiome plays an important role in maintaining the natural balance and health of the  skin. Like humans, dogs have a complex and diverse skin microbiome. However, the microorganisms  found on canine skin differ from those characteristic of human skin.

MyMicrobiome therefore developed its own dedicated pet standards. The Canine Skin Standard  58.10 specifically evaluates the influence of pet care products on the microbial key players of canine  skin. The assessment includes the microbial quality of the product and its influence on the natural  balance of healthy canine skin microorganisms.

Plant-based soothing innovation from Roquette

Beauté by Roquette DE 006 is a 100% plant-based dextrin designed as a soothing ingredient for  sensitive skin and scalp. According to Roquette, the ingredient helps reduce the pro-inflammatory  marker IL-1α, reduces transepidermal water loss caused by chemical and mechanical aggression,  significantly reduces redness and helps preserve the diversity of the skin microbiota.

Originally introduced by Roquette Beauté in 2022, Beauté by Roquette DE 006 was among the early  ingredients in the cosmetics industry to receive MyMicrobiome’s Microbiome-Friendly certification.

The new canine certification demonstrates how microbiome-conscious ingredient development can  evolve across different applications – from human skin care to products designed specifically for  companion animals.
