Introducing the Kelpon - world’s first microbiome-friendly certified tampon made from seaweed

Published: 10-Sep-2024

MyMicrobiome, the leading certification body for Microbiome-friendly products, and Vyld, a German biomaterials start-up, are proud to announce the launch of the world’s first microbiome-friendly certified tampon made from kelp, the Kelpon!

The Kelpon was certified according to the vaginal microbiome standard 41.10 for textiles.

Vyld uses the potential of seaweed to help women menstruate healthily and sustainably. The Kelpon is the first tampon that actively contributes to saving the oceans by binding nitrogen and CO2. Without any fresh water or fertilizers, kelp grows 10x faster than land plants.

Ines Schiller, CEO of Vyld: “We are proud that with the microbiome-friendly certification our Kelpon now not only has a certified positive impact on the natural environment - but also on the vaginal environment. This reflects our holistic approach to create products that are good for everyone, people and planet.”

This healthy seaweed innovation is extra smooth, biodegradable and ocean-friendly. The microbiome-certified Kelpons are not only available online, but also in workplaces, schools, and universities, conveniently accessible through dispensers provided by Vyld’s partner Periodically.
