Mile High Labs, the US-based CBD manufacturer, has announced that its new 400,000 sq ft production facility in Broomfield, Colorado, is now fully operational. The plant allows the company to expand into production of capsules, tablets, topicals, and gummies in addition to CBD isolate and distillate ingredients.
The building was previously owned by pharmaceutical manufacturing giant Novartis. The facility now includes equipment and infrastructure for research and development, quality assurance, bottling, filling, packing, warehousing, labelling, shipping, and compliance monitoring.
With the re-opening of the facility, Mile High Labs hopes to hire many of those former employees.
“The State of Colorado has created an environment for Mile High Labs to thrive, and the City of Broomfield has been a great partner in this process,” commented Stephen Mueller, CEO and founder of Mile High Labs. “We are excited about this next chapter in our company’s history and look forward to being a part of this wonderful community,” he said.
Governor Jared Polis provided the keynote speech at the opening ceremony, which was attended by more than 100 community members, industry leaders and elected officials.
Colorado is known as the centre of the hemp industry in the US and, within it, the Mile High Labs campus will be its core. The company said it plans to create an environment for advanced research and collaboration within the industry.
For Mueller, the building will be the hub of innovation in the industry, and that Mile High Labs hopes this facility “will spur other companies to collaborate and innovate in Colorado and create a cluster of cannabinoid innovation”.
According to cannabis industry specialist Brightfield Group, the CBD market is expected to grow into a $23.7 billion industry by 2023.
Business growth
The Broomfield campus marks the third move since the Colorado company was founded in 2016. Originally based in Longmont, production moved to a larger building in Loveland in 2017. Mile High Labs began looking for a larger facility after the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill legalised hemp and created unprecedented demand for CBD.
Mile High Labs employs people in mid- and high-wage fields ranging from production, engineering, maintenance, and fulfilment to sales, accounting, marketing, research and development and regulation/compliance.
With a GMP-certified facility and extensive network of contracted cultivators, Mile High Labs supplies high-quality, high-volume CBD orders year-round. The company extracts exclusively from industrial hemp material.
