Cosmetics and fragrance retailer Marionnaud Italy has teamed up with beauty tech company Revieve to launch an AI-powered sun care app for the Italian market.
Designed to provide customers with a personalised sun care routine, the AI Suncare Advisor recommends products that suit their individual skin type and environment.
Marionnaud, a subsidiary of the A.S. Watson group, hopes the app will reduce the amount of people being unnecessarily exposed to harmful UV rays.
"Sun care products have historically had a bad reputation,” said Sampo Parkkinen, CEO of Revieve.
“Most people think they are sticky, messy and only suited to one skin type.”
“That reputation plus lack of sun prevention education makes some people shy away from sun protection.”
The platform uses Revieve’s skin diagnostics and AI-recommendation engine, which has been designed to optimise product recommendations for consumers based on their skin types and needs.
Customers will first fill out a form about their skin care concerns and expectations for the sun care routine on the platform.
They will then take a selfie, which is analysed to detect particular sun exposure concerns such as hyperpigmentation, melasma, freckles and wrinkles.
Following this, the user will be provided with a sun care routine tailored to them.
“Most importantly, we are delighted to help Marionnaud Italy strengthen awareness of the different factors that relate to suncare products and help to protect from UV, premature ageing and skin cancer," Parkkinen added.
