Maison Margiela has unveiled its first fragrance by its Creative Director John Galliano.
Created in partnership with IFF master perfumer Dominique Ropion, Mutiny (£117) contains notes of saffron, oud, vanilla and orange flower.
Ropion also developed a new tuberose heart molecule for the perfume.
“In Mutiny, I wanted to allow the tuberose to express all its potential in a very contemporary way,” said Ropion.
"It took me six years and over a thousand tries before succeeding. I broke it. I even crushed it. I kept its structure and took out all the rest. Exactly what Mr Galliano does at Maison Margiela.”
To support the launch, Maison Margiela has created a series of short films directed by Fabien Baron and starring singers Willow Smith and Princess Nokia; actress Sasha Lane (pictured); and models Teddy Quinlivan, Hanne Gaby Odiele and Molly Bair.
“Like creativity, scent has no nationality, gender or creed,” the brand explained. “It speaks a universal language.
“It is the empathetic sentiment of solidarity through individuality. Creativity is our mutiny.”
