In fact, in August, the Group obtained the Gold sustainability rating from EcoVadis, a worldwide platform that evaluates environmental, social, and ethical performances of companies according to 21 criteria grouped into 4 macro-areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.
Beauty is among the various reviewed sectors that with 4085 companies, turns out to be one of the sectors that is most responsive to this topic. In recent years, pressure to manage sustainability has grown in the industry and the worries of stakeholders have grown regarding the impact on the supply chain, from the origin of raw materials to animal testing and disposal of packaging by consumers. It isn't surprising that managers are finding themselves facing growing challenges to protect brands and create new value for companies. This is why there are increasingly more companies that are choosing to work with EcoVadis, recognised internationally as an authoritative and reliable provider to evaluate CSR performance and monitor progress throughout the supply chain.
THE VALUE OF SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is a mandatory step in a company's pathway to growth: looking at the numbers is enough to realise this. According to HEC Sustainable Procurament, 91% of global companies take sustainability criteria into consideration in purchasing decisions, while Sustainable Brands claims that 85% of consumers are inclined to buy from a company known to be sustainable over one they know nothing about. If to this data which is already very telling, you add that in 2018 financing for green projects linked to sustainability amounted to 36.4 billion and "green" bonds to 182 billion, it's evident how essential an asset ethical and environmental sustainability is for the market and for the development of a company.
TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBILITY
If the reliability of a company in the sustainability field is measured looking at concrete actions and numbers, Lumson has demonstrated its commitment with facts. For years, the Group has been working to improve its sustainability index and increase its rating: in 2020, with a score of 57/100, it obtained the Silver Medal and in 2021, it missed out on receiving the Gold Medal by a hair. In 2022, the Group was able to reach goals set in the last two years and with a score of 72/100, achieve the coveted Gold Medal, ranking among 3% of the best companies in the industry.
"The results obtained in 2022 are an important step in a long road of growth and continual improvement in our company. The Gold Medal is an important recognition of the commitment and effort undertaken by Lumson to integrate ESG criteria into the corporate business and make the supply chain more transparent. The certification reflects the responsible actions we've taken with respect to stakeholders and the system in which we operate", commented the president, Matteo Moretti.
The President's affirmations are further confirmed by the latest projects developed by the company, from the refillable Re Place system to XPaper, the innovative paper airless packaging, as well as the numerous initiatives related to energy savings and optimisation of resource management that have been carried out over recent years. The company is characterised by its green approach from the choice of eco-friendly materials to the use of renewable energy sources and from waste reduction to the responsible management of manufacturing waste.
