Six types of lipstick were ordered to be destoyed after Chinese quality inspectors found they contained the carcinogenic industrial dye Sudan Red. The dye, normally used in household items such as floor polish, was found in lipsticks manufactured by two companies based in Shantou. The companies were ordered to stop production, recall the products and destroy them. The report found that 94% of the 102 lipsticks investigated by the quality inspection bureau were of acceptable quality.
