ISO Beauty recalls hair dryers after reports of burns and flames

Published: 15-Feb-2018

In total, 35 complaints were made regarding the hair dryers with two reports of burn injuries

ISO Beauty has recalled its Iconic Pro 2000 and 2000W hair dryers after receiving 35 reports of the electrical devices sparking or smoking.

Two reports of flames coming from the handheld dryers and three reports of burn injuries to hands or fingers were also lodged.

The voluntary recall is being overseen by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in conjunction with Health Canada.

The CPSC warned consumers that the hair dryer’s cord can become brittle near the base of the device, posing burn hazards.

Made in China, the hair dryer with model number HD-1820 was sold in black, white, white pearl, peacock, white zebra, pink leopard, blue and giraffe designs.

Around 73,000 units were sold online in the US, and another 1,000 in Canada, under the ISO Beauty and Proliss brand names from March 2013 to January 2018.

Retailers included groupon.com, target.com, isobeauty.com, proliss.com and amazon.com, with prices ranging between US$30-$40. Winners in Canada also sold the dryer.

Consumers are being instructed to stop using the hair dryers immediately and contact ISO Beauty for credit for a replacement product.
