Harold A. Bryant, PhD, has joined the senior leadership team of Hallstar Beauty as its new global vice president of R&D. In this role, he will be responsible for leading all personnel from Hallstar Beauty’s product development and formulation laboratories in the design and execution of its R&D strategy.

Dr. Bryant served most recently as vice president of discovery and research at Living Proof, a prestige brand focused on hair care. Prior to that, he spent 16 years at beauty giant L’Orèal in roles of increasing responsibility, including eight years as VP of research and innovation.

Dr. Bryant joins Hallstar Beauty at a time of impressive growth for the personal care ingredients company. In the last decade, Hallstar has launched over twenty new technologies for skin, sun and hair care.

Several key acquisitions in Europe and Latin America honed its credentials in natural functional and active ingredients, and the establishment of a China location has strengthened its Asia-Pacific presence.

Dr. Bryant will work from Hallstar Beauty’s North America headquarters in Darien, Illinois; the facility was opened in 2020 to house R&D, customer service, business management, warehouse and production in one place.

“We are extremely fortunate that Harold is now on Hallstar’s executive team to help drive our continuing research initiatives and maintain the singular innovation that is our hallmark,” said Hallstar Beauty president Germano Coelho.

“His experience leading global R&D teams collaboratively and productively will be invaluable, and the brand perspective he brings to our product development activities will help us understand even more about our customers’ needs and expectations.”

An East Coast native, Dr. Bryant earned his BS degree at Lincoln University and both an MA and PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Indiana University and University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. His longstanding passion for discovery, research and mentoring will be key to his successful impact in this new role.

“In addition to its innovation track record and future potential, I was drawn to Hallstar’s people practices and emphasis on a supportive work environment,” said Dr. Bryant, “including in its laboratories in the US, Italy, France, China and Brazil. I’m very eager to meet my talented chemist colleagues around the world and be a part of building an innovation-centric company developing breakthrough technologies.”
