ICHIMARU PHARCOS wins BSB Innovation Award 2025 for sustainable active ingredient

Published: 21-Jan-2026

ICHIMARU PHARCOS Co., Ltd. has been awarded a BSB Innovation Award 2025 for its natural cosmetic active Proteoglycan IPC, recognising excellence in sustainable raw materials

The ingredient was honoured in Category 5: Environment, Sub-category Raw Materials XIII – Actives, within the section covering skin repair, collagen density and skin longevity. The award acknowledges Proteoglycan IPC as a high-performing active that combines efficacy with responsible resource use.

Proteoglycan IPC is a naturally derived anti-ageing ingredient developed by ICHIMARU PHARCOS and commercialised following joint research with Hirosaki University and Kakuhiro Co., Ltd. The technology enables the isolation of high-purity proteoglycan in large quantities from salmon nasal cartilage, a by-product typically discarded during seafood processing.

Proteoglycans are glycoproteins found naturally in the extracellular matrix of skin and cartilage. They play a key role in moisture retention and the maintenance of skin elasticity. Proteoglycan IPC is supplied as Soluble Proteoglycan (INCI) and is designed to support skin repair, collagen density and long-term skin health.

The BSB Innovation Awards promote the global dissemination of up-to-date scientific and technical knowledge across the cosmetics and personal care industry. Winners are selected through an objective, fair and independent evaluation process. The Environment and Applied Concepts categories were announced online in September 2025, followed by a virtual award ceremony hosted by Dr Riedel, Founder of the BSB Innovation Award.

ICHIMARU PHARCOS views this recognition as further motivation to advance the development of innovative, upcycled natural cosmetic ingredients and to strengthen its position as a leading manufacturer of sustainable actives.
