The UK is suffering major haulage disruption after France implemented a 48-hour block on cargo from the UK to France.

The emergency measure was put in place at 11pm GMT on Sunday 20 December in response to the emergence of a new strain of Covid-19, which is spreading rapidly in the south east of England.

While there is no ban on goods arriving from France, human-handled freight is currently suspended from the UK to France and lorries are unable to cross the channel to France via Eurotunnel or by ferry.

The decision is already creating chaos around the Port of Dover ferry terminal in Kent, with trucks returning to the EU from the UK unable to travel.
