Tell us about your first job in beauty?
My first experience in beauty was volunteering for Operation Smile Mission in Thailand in 1998.
I had just finished my second year of medical school and did not know what I wanted to do.
I was then introduced to non-profit Operation Smile, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children with cleft conditions, and they offered me a spot to accompany them on a mission and, of course, I said yes.
It was probably the most profound experience I had in my formative days.
We had patients with cleft lips and palettes waiting days for a consultation. The team of volunteers included doctors, nurses and an admin team – which included me.
We had 1,000 patients come and the team operated on about 80 over the course of our time there.
It was really transformative and truly awe inspiring, and the spark that led me to become an Oculoplastic Surgeon.
