Harrods is closing its hospitality operations in Shanghai, China, to focus on other opportunities in the country.

The luxury department store opened its first private members’ club, The Residence, in Shanghai in 2023.

Located on the second floor of Cha House, a centuries-old heritage building in the city, only 250 members were accepted, and fees start from 150,000 RMB (US$20,000) for an annual membership.

The space features a bar, lounge, private dining rooms and outdoor terraces, as well as a restaurant hosted by chef Gordon Ramsay.

A private shopping suite offers members space to shop and exclusive events, along with afternoon tea.

Harrods also operates a separate tea room and bar at the location that is open to the public.

The Residence and The Harrods Tea Rooms will close in January 2026 after just two years.
